  "Description": "An exact finite-sample test for whether two groups share a\ncovariance matrix, the omnibus form of the differential-network\nquestion. Under the Gaussian null the likelihood-ratio\nstatistic has a distribution given by the real Jacobi ensemble\nthat is free of the unknown common covariance, so a single\nMonte-Carlo calibration at the identity serves every covariance\nwith no estimate of the nuisance covariance; this is the\nproperty that survives the dimension barrier, where estimating\nthe covariance is hardest. The max-type high-dimensional test\nof Cai, Liu and Xia (2013) <doi:10.1080/01621459.2012.758041>\nis provided for comparison. A pure-C back-end does the numerics\nand also backs the 'Python' package 'regstat'.",

    "message": "Build the C back-end at install time, so regstat can be installed anywhere\n\nThe Python front compiled regcov.c on FIRST IMPORT, with a hardcoded `cc`, writing the library into\nits own site-packages directory. That works on this machine and fails on every other: a missing\ncompiler surfaces as a crash rather than an install error, site-packages is read-only in containers\nand most system installs, and stock Windows has no `cc`. This is the same defect arcstat carried\nbefore its release and is corrected the same way.\n\nsetup.py declares regcov.c as an Extension, so pip compiles it inside build isolation at install\ntime and real platform wheels can be built. _core.py gains the two-path loader: an installed copy\nuses the library pip built beside it, a source checkout still compiles on demand into a writable\ncache so the edit-C-and-re-import loop keeps working. Verified by installing the sdist into a clean\nvenv with CC pointed at a nonexistent binary; it imports and computes.\n\npyproject moves to the SPDX license string, which conflicts with a License:: classifier, so that\nclassifier goes.
